Police Seek Help Finding Duluth Rape Suspect

Gwinnett County Police say Jamaal Lamont Cooke raped a mentally impaired 18 year old.

DULUTH, GA -- Gwinnett County Police are looking for help finding a man they say raped a mentally impaired 18 year old.

Jamaal Cooke, 22, has an extensive criminal history and is known to frequent the area around Paramount Apartments, at 4201 Pleasant Lake Village in Duluth, police say.

On April 23, police say "an 18 year old female with the mental capacity of a 10 year old" was visiting a friend at the apartments.

Cooke also was at the apartment, police said in a news release. When the friend left the apartment, Cooke raped the victim, according to police.

Police attempted to arrest Cooke two days later. They made contact with him at the Paramount Apartments on April 25, but say Cooke resisted arrest and ran away.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact the special-victims unit at 770 513-5300. Crime Stoppers tipsters can receive up to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment in the case.
