'Second Samuel' Opening at Lionheart Theatre

The comedy-drama written by a Southern playwright will run at Lionheart March 8-March 24.

It was a simpler time in the late 1940s, especially in South Georgia’s sleepy little town called Second Samuel. In the summer Miss Gertrude passed away, deep dark town secrets were about to be revealed. Nobody could have imagined how the death of one sweet little old lady would turn the entire town upside down, leaving everybody in Second Samuel wondering if anything would ever be normal again.

"Second Samuel," a warm comedy-drama by Southern playwright Pamela Parker, opens at Lionheart Theatre Co. Friday, March 8, and runs weekends through March 24. Amy Szymanski is making her directorial debut.

Duluth fans of Lionheart productions at the theatre in nearby Norcross can also enjoy another classic Southern play, "To Kill a Mockingbird." Directed by Joanie McElroy, it opens April 26 and runs through May 12.

"These wonderful Southern plays fit so nicely into our historic building," said Producing Artistic Director Tanya Caldwell. "You get cozy in your seat and feel like you're right in the living room with actors."

Friday and Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday shows are at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. Lionheart always serves complimentary desserts during intermission. For tickets, visit www.lionehearttheatre.org or call 678-938-8518.

Lionheart is located in the College Street Playhouse at 10 College Street in Historic Norcross. The award‐winning community theater welcomes diverse audiences through the same doors that once greeted church parishioners over 100 years ago.

The playhouse is set alongside Norcross’ newly renovated Lillian Webb Park and is a short walk to the heart of the downtown area, the perfect place to have dinner, cocktails or shop before or after enjoying a performance.
