Here are the top stories today in Duluth:
- If you are interested in shopping sales this Labor Day Weekend, you probably know that some businesses have strange hours on businesses. Costco will be among the major businesses closed on Monday. Click the link below to see which businesses around town that will be open. (Patch)
- A popular Atlanta chain restaurant, The Slutty Vegan, has announced that they will be opening a fourth location in Duluth. The new restaurant will be located on Pleasant Hill Road, and will have the same menu as the locations that are inside the perimeter. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- The Georgia Department of Education recently honored six Gwinnett County schools by naming them the 2020-2021 Reward Schools for improving overall student performance. Reward Schools are Title 1 schools in our state that have made the most improvement in student scores. Sweetwater Middle School and Corley Elementary School were among the six schools honored. - The Gwinnett County School District has announced that it will hold several COVID-19 vaccination clinics at some chosen high schools that are open to the public, including children over the age of 12. If a minor hopes to receive the vaccine, their parent or guardian must be present. Along with this announcement, Gwinnett County School District has announced a $500 incentive for all staff members to get vaccinated. If you are a teacher that has received the vaccine in the past, you will also receive the stipend. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
- A group of local parents have written a letter of intent to sue Gwinnett County Public Schools over the recently implemented school mask mandate for students and teachers. The parents have started a GoFundMe petition that has raised over $26,000 intended to go towards their legal fees. (WABE)
