🌱 Threats Reported Against School Board Chair + GCPS Job Fair

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Duluth.

(Patch Media)

Happy Friday, people of Duluth! Let's get you all caught up to start today off on an informed note.

First, today's weather:

Cooler; a morning shower. High: 62 Low: 38.

Here are the top three stories today in Duluth:

  1. The NAACP is asking for an investigation into "racist threats" that have reportedly been made against Gwinnett County school board Chair Dr. Tarece Johnson. According to the organization, Dr. Johnson has been the target of "racism, hate, and slander" by GOP political figures like Senator Burt Jones over her anti-racism social media posts. This conservative backlash has allegedly created a "hostile environment" in GCPS board meetings, and the NAACP has called on Superintendent Dr. Calvin Watts and local police to take action and vet the threats to Johnson and her children. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  2. Calling all local educators: Gwinnett County Public Schools is hosting a virtual job fair for multiple teaching positions tomorrow, Feb. 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Registration will close today (Feb. 25) or when all available interview times have been filled. Those interested in registering for an interview must be certified by July 2022 for the 2022-23 school year. Candidates who would like additional information or questions may email the recruitment department at gcpsteach@gcpsk12.org. (Patch)
  3. Duluth is in for a cool and rainy weekend. There's an 80 percent chance of precipitation tomorrow and a 95 percent chance on Sunday. High temperatures are expected to be in the 50s. Check out the full local weather forecast on Patch. (Duluth Patch)
