Young Gwinnett Scientists, Engineers Prepare for International Fair

Seven students will represent Gwinnett County Schools this weekend in Los Angeles at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.

The fair is scheduled May 11-16.

The students are:

From Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology

Mitesh Bhalani
Project: “Synthesizing pY Nanotubes: Toward a Phospholipid Bilayer Model”

William Jin
Project: “Developing Novel Protein Targets for pertussis Antibiotics Part 2”

Angelin Ponraj
Project: CD8 T Cells in SIV Pathogenic and Non-Pathogenic Infection

From Mill Creek High
Sergio Parra
Project: “Designing the M.A.R.S. Suit”

According to a school system press release, Karen, Angelin, and Sergio all qualified to compete at the international level after impressing the judges during the local Gwinnett County Regional Science and Engineering Fair earlier this school year. Their high scores allowed them to move automatically to the international event.

The team of Fernando and Aksal, as well as Mitesh, and William all earned their spots after winning 1st place during the statewide Georgia Junior & Senior Science & Engineering Fair this spring.
