Today's riddle: What has a cap but no head? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Indoor pickleball courts win approval in Dunwoody vote (appenmedia.com) — Dunwoody City Council has approved indoor pickleball courts at the Marcus Jewish Community Center after requiring stronger noise-mitigation steps, while also greenlighting new housing on Spalding, Roberts, and Ashford Dunwoody roads. Council members additionally cleared a special-use permit for a SmartMED urgent care clinic with drive-thru visits at Perimeter Center West, expanding local healthcare options for residents.
2. Metro court offers amnesty for overdue tickets, court date warrants for limited time (wsbtv.com) — If you've got an old Dunwoody traffic ticket or a bench warrant, the city's Municipal Court is offering a no-arrest amnesty program through October and November. Residents can visit the court on Ashford Dunwoody Road to pay overdue fines, get contempt fees waived, and clear warrants that may be affecting licenses or job prospects. Staff can also schedule new court dates when appearances are required.
3. Breaking down DeKalb Schools' redistricting options by cluster (decaturish.com) — Families in Dunwoody should pay close attention as DeKalb Schools weighs three redistricting options that could shift hundreds of students among Chesnut, Hightower, Dunwoody, Kingsley, Vanderlyn, and Austin elementary schools and eventually ease overcrowding at Dunwoody High. Options 2 and 3 propose significant boundary changes, including moving students from Doraville United into Hightower and Kingsley, while public feedback is still being collected before a final vote later this year.
4. Motorcyclist killed in Dunwoody crash on Tilly Mill Road, police say (fox5atlanta.com) — A 21-year-old motorcyclist died after a collision with a sedan at Tilly Mill Road and East Madison Drive in Dunwoody Thursday afternoon, and police are still investigating what led to the crash. Officers are asking anyone who saw the incident or has relevant information to contact the Dunwoody Police Department to help clarify what happened and whether charges are warranted.
5. Community Assistance Center gala raises $500,000 to support local families (fultonneighbor.com) — Dunwoody families facing eviction, hunger, or job hurdles will see more support after the Community Assistance Center's gala raised $500,000 for its Compassion in Action campaign. The funds will help keep local residents housed, expand access to free fresh food, and grow career and workforce programs serving Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, and Doraville areas tied to Dunwoody schools. Leaders say the focus is shifting from crisis response to long-term stability.
