Dunwoody Crime Report: Phony Secret Service Agent, Shoplifting at Sprouts, Landscaping Plants Stolen

The Dunwoody Police Department also searched for a woman with dementia and a restaurant owner scammed by a caller over utilities.

A rundown of Dec. 1 calls by the Dunwoody Police Department:

  • Missing Person from Perimeter Mall. The victim was last seen in the food court with her husband. She was reported to suffer from dementia, therefore a Mattie’s call was initiated. Prior to the activation, she was located by Brookhaven Police by the State Farm building on Ashford Dunwoody Road. EMS was called to check her out, and she was taken back to her residence.
  • Serious accident occurred at Mt. Vernon/Hidden Branches.
  • Attempted entering auto was reported at the Point at Perimeter Apartments. The suspect attempted to gain entry by damaging the lock on the vehicle. This occurred between 6 PM - 8:24 AM the following morning.
  • Shoplifting at Sprouts. The suspect entered the store and concealed four items from the health care isle of the store and placed the items in his backpack. Video & photos of the suspect were secured. (Suspect info) heavy set black male with mustache and goatee wearing a gray t-shirt, dark shorts and black Nike tennis shoes.
  • Larceny of landscaping items from the Madison Subdivision. It was reported that 48 plants were stolen from the entrance of the subdivision. The value of the stolen plants is $2,880. This occurred between 11 PM - 6 AM.
  • Suspicious male entered Dunwoody Animal Medical Center and identified himself as a Secret Service Agent. He then demonstrated how to determine if a $20 bill is counterfeit. After the demonstration, he exited the hospital and entered his vehicle. Photos of the subject were secured. (Suspect: heavyset w/m, wearing a navy blue sweat shirt with “OIB” printed on the front, black or dark gray sweat pants with shiny cowboy boots. Vehicle: black older model Cadillac CTS.
  • Recovered stolen vehicle. An abandoned vehicle was located on PIB near Tilly Mill Rd.
  • Fraud: The owner of local restaurant received a call on 11/26/14 from a woman claiming to be an employee of Georgia Power. The victim was advised that he needed to immediately pay $1,943 or the service to his restaurant will be terminated. The victim purchased four MoneyPak Cards and provided the suspect the card numbers.
  • Entering auto on Hensley Dr. Suspect entered the unlocked vehicle and removed an old cell phone and loose change.
  • Entering auto on Womack Rd. Suspect entered the unlocked vehicle but no items were taken. This occurred between 8 PM - 9 AM the following morning.
  • Motor vehicle theft at Chateau at Dunwoody. The reporting party advised that a 2013 Elantra was taken from the parking lot between 6 PM - 3 PM. The caller still had possession of the keys and there were no signs of forced entry where the vehicle was previously parked.
