Dunwoody Police Rescue Dog, Send Him to a Better Life

Once the victim of neglect, Copper is now on his way to a new career as a service dog.

Dunwoody GA -- A canine that was suffering from neglect last week is now on his way to a new life as a service dog.

Dunwoody police responded to an animal neglect call this past Friday, Dec. 18. The 9-1-1 caller said the dog had been left chained to a tree behind an apartment complex with no food or water.

The dog snapped at Dunwoody Officers Tomalka and Irwin as they tried to untie him, but were eventually successful to free him.

“Recognizing that the dog could be used as a working or service dog, Officer Irwin contacted Custom Canine Unlimited,” according to a police statement. “The company met with Irwin and the dog Vargas obliged and met with Officer Irwin and the dog in Buford, GA. The dog, now named Copper, was turned over to Custom Canine Unlimited staff members for a better a life.”

Custom Canine Unlimited has been training service dogs for military and law enforcement, both locally and internationally, for 15 years. The company also provides boarding and pet training services.
