📰 News we're reading

1. Update: DeKalb Schools approves second vendor for Dunwoody High School stadium (roughdraftatlanta.com) — Dunwoody High School's long-awaited on-campus stadium is moving forward after DeKalb Schools chose a new construction manager when the original firm backed out over budget concerns. The fully donor-funded, $1.5 million Seacrest Stadium project will add seating, restrooms, concessions, and a press box, finally allowing varsity games to be played in Dunwoody. Final construction cost and schedule details are still being finalized.

2. Data center would add significantly to tax digest, but residents have concerns (roughdraftatlanta.com) — A major renovation of the long-vacant data center at 40 Perimeter Center East could bring Dunwoody more than $300,000 a year in new tax revenue, but nearby residents are alarmed by demolition noise and potential impacts on water, power, and peace and quiet. The developer, Raeden, says it will stay within existing building limits, use efficient cooling systems, add a walking trail, and commission a sound study to keep noise near library-level. City approval will still be needed for any future power expansion.

3. Dunwoody's Carlson named national 'Neighbor of the Year' (appenmedia.com) — A longtime Dunwoody volunteer, Judi Carlson, has been named Neighbors Bank's national "Neighbor of the Year" and is directing her $20,000 prize back into Malachi's Storehouse at St. Patrick's Episcopal Church. The Dunwoody-based ministry distributes food, clothing, and baby supplies to hundreds of local families each week and relies heavily on volunteers and donations to keep up with growing demand.

4. Halloween Farm Festival in Dunwoody on October 24th (atlantaonthecheap.com) — Families in Dunwoody can plan now for the Halloween Farm Festival at Donaldson-Bannister Farm on Saturday, October 24, with free admission and low-cost activities. Kids can enjoy a mystery adventure, petting zoo, games, crafts, and food, with discounted unlimited-game wristbands and Kid Packs available, plus nearby parking and a shuttle from Independence Square.

5. Dunwoody budget projects costs rising faster than revenue (appenmedia.com) — Dunwoody officials have unveiled a $64.4 million 2027 city budget that relies on more than $2.8 million in reserves as recurring costs, especially for police, rise faster than revenue. Residents can weigh in at public budget hearings on November 16 and 30 at Dunwoody City Hall, where spending priorities for parks, public works, and other services will be discussed.
