Police: Robber Targeting Hispanic Female Taxi Drivers

Authorities say they aren't interested in the immigration status of victims, and are urging anyone to come forward who was robbed.

DeKalb County police say an armed robber is targeting Hispanic female taxi drivers and they urge victims to come forward regardless of immigration status.

Police said in at least three cases the Hispanic man has had female taxi drivers take him to a business along Pleasantdale Road, where he robs them with a knife or at gunpoint. He then runs from the area, but authorities say security cameras on buildings have captured video of him, reports WSB TV.

One victim told WSB the robber stole cash, her driver’s license and her papers showing U.S. residency and documentation from her native Ecuador. Police said in that robbery, the man didn’t use a weapon but since then he’s used a knife or gun.

“That’s our main concern, that at some point he is going to be at that point where he is going to use one of these,” said DeKalb police detective C.D. Cantrell.

Police believe video shows at least one robbery whose victim has not contacted authorities. Investigators are not concerned about the immigration status of victims, saying they want to talk to anyone else robbed by the suspect so they can investigate and make an arrest.
