Truck Overturns, Dumps Sewage on I-285 in Sandy Springs

Three lanes on I-285 are closed as well as the S.R. 400 southbound exit ramp.

A tanker truck carrying sewage overturned and spilled its contents on Interstate 285 Friday afternoon in Sandy Springs.

Sandy Springs police spokesperson Sgt. Forrest Bohannon said the truck also spilled some of its diesel fuel in the crash. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and there are no life-threatening injuries, she added.

The Georgia Department of Transportation reports three lanes on I-285 eastbound are closed as well as the S.R. 400 southbound exit ramp to I-285 eastbound as crews work to clean up the spill.

Sgt. Bohannon added the cause of the accident remains elusive, and it’s unknown how long it will take to clean up the spill.
