West Endβs streets close to cars & open for miles of free activities at 2015βs first βAtlanta Streets Aliveβ event From 2-6 p.m., Sunday, April 19, the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition will return to the Historic West End for its first βAtlanta Streets Aliveβ event of 2015. For this Atlanta Streets Alive, a 3.5-mile loop of streets will be closed to car traffic and opened for foot traffic. An expected 20,000 people will enjoy a family-friendly event βaliveβ with free people-powered activities, including sports, dancing, music, games and more. Atlanta Streets Alive (Atlanta Bicycle Coalitionβs open-streets initiative since 2009) takes cars out of the equation for an afternoon so that Atlantans can explore community streets - by bike or foot β in a safer, healthier and more livable way. A variety of activities are planned during the day, including: β’Performances by Music in the Park, including founder, Kebbi Williams β’Pop-up protected bike lane on Lee Street β’A pop-up park in the streets, complete with astro turf, hula hoops, parachutes and more from Park Pride β’Bike tours of nearby urban gardens β’Walks along the Atlanta BeltLineβs West End Trail and the currently under construction Westside Trail β’An artisans and prepared food market β’Tai Chi sessions and demonstrations by West End Tai Chi β’Yoga and fitness via the West End Farmerβs and Artisanβs Market β’Games of Frisbee Tree ID from Trees Atlanta The event kicks off at 2 p.m. with a Bicycle Parade.
