West End’s streets close to cars & open for miles of free activities at 2015’s first β€˜Atlanta Streets Alive’ event From 2-6 p.m., Sunday, April 19, the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition will return to the Historic West End for its first β€œAtlanta Streets Alive” event of 2015. For this Atlanta Streets Alive, a 3.5-mile loop of streets will be closed to car traffic and opened for foot traffic. An expected 20,000 people will enjoy a family-friendly event β€˜alive’ with free people-powered activities, including sports, dancing, music, games and more. Atlanta Streets Alive (Atlanta Bicycle Coalition’s open-streets initiative since 2009) takes cars out of the equation for an afternoon so that Atlantans can explore community streets - by bike or foot – in a safer, healthier and more livable way. A variety of activities are planned during the day, including: β€’Performances by Music in the Park, including founder, Kebbi Williams β€’Pop-up protected bike lane on Lee Street β€’A pop-up park in the streets, complete with astro turf, hula hoops, parachutes and more from Park Pride β€’Bike tours of nearby urban gardens β€’Walks along the Atlanta BeltLine’s West End Trail and the currently under construction Westside Trail β€’An artisans and prepared food market β€’Tai Chi sessions and demonstrations by West End Tai Chi β€’Yoga and fitness via the West End Farmer’s and Artisan’s Market β€’Games of Frisbee Tree ID from Trees Atlanta The event kicks off at 2 p.m. with a Bicycle Parade.
