Attorney Opposing Braves Deal May Have Been Arson Target
Fire officials deemed the blaze at Susan McCoy's East Cobb property on Thursday to be suspicious in nature.

An East Cobb attorney who has formally opposed the Atlanta Braves’ Cobb County stadium deal suspects that a fire on her property on Thursday morning was set on purpose, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
On Thursday, part of Susan McCoy’s property in the Mount Bethel area caught fire. Her home was not damaged by the blaze, but portions of her fence were destroyed, along with evergreen trees and portions of her yard. The fire was suspicious in nature, said Cobb County fire investigators.
McCoy has filed a complaint with the Federal Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), requesting the body take a closer look at Cobb County’s validation of $397 million in bonds to help finance the construction of the newly-named SunTrust Park. She has been a vocal critic of the county’s rush to approve the stadium project, saying that Cobb leaders spent more time deliberating on backyard chickens than they did weighing the pros and cons of the stadium deal.

Although authorities cannot definitively link the fire with McCoy’s opposition to the Braves stadium deal, McCoy has no doubt that the fire was ”retribution” for her stance.
