GoFakeMe: East Cobb Parents, Grandparent Arrested for Fraudulent Fundraiser

An East Cobb mother, father, and grandmother have all been arrested by police after discovering that an online fundraiser they were conducting for their 3-year-old daughter was held under false pretenses.

According to WSB-TV, Marietta residents Joannessa and James Clawson and Patti Ann Baldassarre are accused of accepting donations through GoFundMe for the child, who they claim was suffering from a medical condition. Cobb County school police discovered that the child was in fact healthy after a concerned teacher asked the agency to check in on the girl.
Cobb County jail records show that the Clawsons and Baldassarre all face felony conspiracy charges. Joannessa is also charged with felony theft by deception, while James faces an additional charge of misdemeanor obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
