Man Narrowly Avoided Robbery by Cobb Trio Accused of Craigslist Killing

Two days before the three men allegedly robbed, shot, and killed a Clark Atlanta University student, another man had been their mark.

An area man says he is lucky to be alive after his instincts told him to flee from a Craigslist transaction carried out by three men who now stand accused of murder for the exact same thing.

Thomas Tuffa told WSB-TV that he had wanted to buy an iPhone 6 off of Craigslist, and was told to meet the seller on Jamaica Cove in Marietta on Saturday. Tuffa, who brought his wife along, was not comfortable with the situation he encountered when he arrived, he said.

Three men were waiting for Tuffa, one of whom was holding a box and acting nervously. When Tuffa asked to see the phone, the man with the box rudely demanded the money first. Rattled, Tuffa told WSB-TV that he decided to play it safe and drive away from the deal.

Jones’ body was discovered in his wrecked car on Monday evening, police said. Police told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the suspects stole Jones’ Nikes as he lay dying in the front seat.
