UPDATE: Motorcyclist Burned in East Cobb Gas Station Fire

The gas tank of the motorcycle overfilled, sparking a flash fire.

A motorcyclist received severe burns after he accidentally started a flash fire at an East Cobb gas station on Thursday morning, Cobb County fire officials said.

The man, who has yet to be identified, was filling up at the Chevron at Trickum and Shallowford roads at 8:08 a.m. when the gas tank overflowed and loose gasoline ignited. Cobb County Fire Rescue spokesman Dan Dupree told Patch it wasn’t clear if the motor was running, but added that witnesses said the motorcycle’s radio was blaring at the time.

Dupree told Patch that another person was burned on the hand trying to put out the fire. The motorcyclist was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital, while the other person was sent to a local hospital via ambulance.
