Lace up your cleats and step back in time! It’s the most action-packed November Homeschool Day yet as we explore how modern Southern sports obsession directly traces its roots to our region's 20th-century industrial mill villages.
Long before the billion-dollar stadium deals and high school "Friday Night Lights" became a southern religion, North Georgia football was a brutal, hard-nosed industrial byproduct. Students will learn about Gainesville’s legendary 20th-century "Linthead Leagues", the corporate-funded athletic empires of the New Holland and Chicopee Mills, where factory workers became hometown heroes. Football is more than simply entertainment. We’ll look at football as a historical window into economics, physics, and social change that created community structures that our local high schools eventually inherited.
