Alex's Lemonade Stand

8-year-old resident Alex Block and neighbors host lemonade stand to contribute to childhood cancer research

In an
effort to join the battle against childhood cancer, Alex
Block of Grayson, GA, with the help of his neighbors, will host an
Alex’s Lemonade Stand during the Foundation’s National Lemonade Days initiative
on Sunday, June 8, from noon to 6 PM. Lemonade, cookies, pie, and handicrafts will be available, please bring a donation!

Alex’s friend, Rebecca, is 5 years old and was
diagnosed with Grade III astrocytoma last Fall. Rebecca and her family did
everything perfectly: immediate surgery to remove all of the tumor that could
be safely removed, 7 weeks of Proton Beam Radiation were bravely endured, and chemo
was started quickly, using an investigational protocol. A few months ago, the
tumor came back, and it's more aggressive than before. Rebecca has started on a
new clinical trial which is buying an unknown grace period, but this won’t work
forever, and so the family is already evaluating possible next steps for
clinical trials. All the options this child has left is research, which is a
scary place to be, whether you are the child or any parent watching this happen
to someone you love.
