GGC Sweeps in Inaugural Games
The Grizzlies men's and women's soccer teams both won their matches Saturday, kicking off the Lawrenceville college's athletic program. Lilburn native scores school's first points.
kicked off their inaugural season of varsity sports in a big way Saturday. Both their men's and women's soccer team were victorious in their games on their newly constructed field in front of some 700 fans.
The women's team played the first game in the school's history against Tennessee Temple University Saturday. Sophomore forward Amairani Almanza of Lilburn scored the first two goals for the Grizzlies. They went on to beat TTU 9-1.
“It was a fantastic start out there by our team today,” said head women’s coach Domenic Martelli in a release. “We were so excited to see everything come together for the first time and we had a fantastic crowd out there. That gave us great energy to play really well, from the backs all the way up to the forward spot.”
