Only 2 large school districts are without fiscal 'red flags,' analysis finds (k12dive.com subscription) — Gwinnett County's school system has been flagged with six serious fiscal warning signs, putting it among the most financially stressed large districts in the nation. A new analysis says the board's high liabilities, per-student debt, and recent deficit spending could signal long-term budget trouble that residents and parents should watch closely.
   

2. Kemp Appoints Two Judges to Gwinnett Superior Court (valdostatoday.com) — Two well-known local jurists, Veronica Cope and Kathrine Armstrong, have been appointed to the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit Superior Court, strengthening leadership across Gwinnett County's courts. Both currently serve in Gwinnett courts and have deep ties to local legal, civic, and community organizations, meaning their promotions could shape how justice is administered countywide for years to come.
   

3. Gwinnett County police searching for missing Lilburn 16-year-old last seen over a week ago (cbsnews.com) — Gwinnett County police are urgently searching for 16-year-old Adah George, who left her Lilburn home on Aug. 19 saying she was headed to Stone Mountain and hasn't been seen since. Her phone last pinged near Stonecrest in DeKalb County, and police say health concerns make finding her critical, asking anyone with information to call them immediately.
   

4. Everton Blair Is South's First Black Gay Congressman (metroweekly.com) — Former Gwinnett County School Board chair Everton Blair has been elected to Congress in a special election, becoming the South's first openly gay Black congressman and winning 70% of the vote in Gwinnett County. His brief term will finish the late David Scott's tenure, giving local residents a familiar voice in Washington even as another Democrat is favored to win the seat in November.
   

5. Ringold remembers; And the winner is…; Thefts from school buses; Ga. Promise program sued (wgtjradio.com) — Gwinnett County readers may recognize Democrat Everton Blair, a former local school board chair, who just won the special election runoff for Georgia's 13th Congressional District and will serve out the late David Scott's term. The statewide roundup also notes Ringgold's tribute to Dolly Parton, a multistate school-bus theft investigation, and a lawsuit challenging Georgia's Promise Scholarship rules.
