2017 Neighborhood Repaving Starts in April
Since 2015, the city of Johns Creek has resurfaced streets in 60 neighborhoods.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- Efforts to give motorists a smoother ride along neighborhood streets in Johns Creek will continue this year.
That's because the city's Public Works Department is set to begin its third year of "concentrated efforts" to repave neighborhood streets, the city of Johns Creek said.
Weather permitting, the 2017 installment of this four-year initiative is expected to start in April.

The proposed list of 17 subdivisions to be resurfaced this year has not yet been approved by City Council. Once approved, city officials will provide additional details regarding the timeline and priority for each.
Since 2015, Johns Creek has repaved 60 subdivisions. The city has increased funding for the project from $1.5 million to $5 million in fiscal year 2016 in an effort to accelerate the repaving program timeline by a year, completing a five-year paving in four years.

Johns Creek staff members developed its prioritized list in 2014, when it used a consultant with a specially equipped vehicle to drive each of Johns Creek's streets to gauge their conditions.
Using the resulting data as a guide, the Public Works staff developed a repaving plan for the city's subdivisions. The physical survey of city streets revealed that many of them had a substandard Pavement Quality Index, or PQI. The PQI is a 1-100 scale developed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to measure cracking, potholes, rutting, weathering and other factors.
Low PQI scores reflect a lower condition of the pavement. The lower the PQI score, the higher the priority when scheduling the repaving.
As of 2016, 65.43 miles of residential roads have been repaved. For more information, check out the city's Neighborhood Repaving website.
