24th Annual Veterans Day Celebration On Nov. 8

Perimeter School in Johns Creek will host this event honoring the service men and women of the U.S. armed forces.

JOHNS CREEK, GA — Perimeter School on Thursday will host its 24th Annual Veterans Day Celebration to honor the servicemen and women of the United States armed forces. The Johns Creek school's event will begin at 9:45 a.m. Nov. 8 at Perimeter Church.

Veterans, their families and members of the community are invited to attend the program, which will include a posting of the colors and a stirring recognition of veterans from each branch of the armed services.

What began as the inspiration of one teacher in 1995 has grown beyond the walls of this school and church to impact the entire community. In 2017, more than 2,500 people, including 280 veterans, attended the event.

Mary Eidman, the daughter and sister of Army veterans and mother to an active-duty Special Forces soldier, attended her first Perimeter School Veterans Day Celebration last year. She was so moved by the tribute that she wrote a letter of appreciation.

“I loved everything about your celebration, but was most sincerely impressed with the quiet respect, discipline and genuine caring your students showed to everyone – especially the veterans.” Eidman said. “Thank you so much for putting the celebration on. It means so much to those who served and those who were left behind to carry on while they were gone.”

The year’s guest speaker is Karen Lemon, who served in the United States Army as a specialist and chaplain’s assistant at the height of the Cold War. Lemon’s service honored a family legacy of military commitment. Her father served as a drill sergeant during World War II, and her uncle fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

“This is one of the most significant and memorable events for our school family each year,” said Perimeter School Headmaster Bobby Scott. “Many of these men and women are overwhelmed by the display of gratitude. Unfortunately, there was a time when veterans were not honored for their service. It is our mission to ensure that they feel appreciated on this day and every day.”

Perimeter School, a covenant Christian school, is a ministry of Perimeter Church. The Veterans Day Celebration will take place in the Main Sanctuary of the church at 9500 Medlock Bridge Road in Johns Creek.

Veterans are encouraged to wear their uniforms or insignias indicating their branch of service. A reception for veterans and their family members immediately follows the celebration. Handicapped parking and building access are available as well as curbside assistance.
