Armed Robbery Suspect Arraigned on Federal Charges

Kevin Ray Williamson is charged with several bank robberies in Johns Creek and Cobb County.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- The man tied to several armed robberies at banks in Cobb and north Fulton counties have been arraigned on federal charges.

Kevin Ray Williamson was arraigned this week, the United States Attorney John Horn said late Friday morning.

Williamson is the alleged suspect in armed robberies that started Feb. 4 and continued Sept. 8. He was indicted by a federal grand jury on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

“Williamson is alleged to have committed a series of armed bank robberies that kept bank employees and citizens on edge for over eight months,” Horn said. “The arrest and indictment in this case put an end to an active, eight-month crime spree, and hopefully returned a sense of safety to the community in Marietta, where most of the robberies occurred.”

Prosecutors state Williamson's alleged spree started Feb. 4 when he walked into a Fifth Third Bank at 4209 Roswell Road in Marietta.

The man, the FBI notes, approached a teller station, brandished a black semi-automatic handgun and demanded money "as he put a briefcase on top of the counter."

The teller complied with the robber’s demands and placed the money inside of the briefcase.

"The robber stated that he owed some money to someone in Nashville," the FBI said. "He stated he was sorry and fled the bank."

The same man, the FBI states, was observed at the same bank a day before the robbery. On that day, the suspect was wearing brown leather gloves, a long bubble trench coat, a baseball cap and holding a black canvass briefcase.

At around 11:52 a.m. April 1, a suspect walked into Regions Bank at 2486 Roswell Road in Marietta, brandished the semi-automatic handgun while announcing the robbery to a teller.

Around 2:08 p.m. May 25, a white male entered BB&T at 4370 Roswell Road in Marietta and once again announced a robbery to the teller while displaying a handgun.

The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of money and left the location without further incident.

On July 13 at around 11:33 a.m., the alleged bank robber walked into PNC Bank at 1111 Johnson Ferry Road in Marietta and after waiting in line behind another patron, he cut in front of another customer, approached the teller and announced the robbery.

Brandishing a black handgun, the suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect struck again around 12:47 p.m. Aug. 22 at Fidelity Bank at 2401 Windy Ridge Parkway in Vinings. The robber pulled out a black handgun from his briefcase, pointed it at the teller and announced the robbery. After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect left without any additional incidents.

On Sept. 8, Williamson allegedly entered Rensanat Bank at 11655 Medlock Bridge Road, displayed a handgun and "demanded money from several drawers," the U.S. Attorney's Office added.

Williamson, who resides in Marietta, was arraigned Wednesday, Oct. 26 before before U.S. Magistrate Judge Janet F. King.

“The FBI is proud of the outstanding work of its many agents, task force officers, and analytical personnel in getting the person believed to be responsible for these armed serial bank robberies identified and safely apprehended," said George Crouch, acting special agent in charge, FBI Atlanta Field Office. "These robberies were particularly egregious in that many of the victim tellers had to endure having a handgun pointed directly at them. The FBI will continue to make those who bring this type of violent crime into our communities a priority matter."
