From the hills of Old Ireland to the hollows of Appalachia, The Amazing Spud Brothers draw from the best of both traditions... and more! Uilleann piper/wooden flutist John Maschinot and banjo-player/fiddler/guitarist/harmonica player/singer Evan Kinney hold forth with foot tapping, hand clapping tunes and songs from the old world and the new. And Jesse “Mr. Fancy Pants” Edgerton rocks the stage with his percussion and “flat-foot” style dancing... the old time American version of clogging.

With a moniker like “The Amazing Spud Brothers” you know there will be lots of fun onstage!
The uilleann pipes are an instrument native to Ireland, a mellow sounding type of bagpipes made for playing indoors in an ensemble setting. Featured in major productions such as Riverdance and Celtic Woman, “the pipes” have a unique sound that is quintessentially Celtic. John Maschinot is regarded as one of the region’s foremost uilleann pipers and wooden flute players. Active for over 30 years, his solo and ensemble work have taken him to festival, concert and theater stages throughout the country, and he has performed before thousands of students in his school programs. He was presented the prestigious “Stars of the South” award in 2010 by Irish American magazine for his commitment to the performance, promotion and dissemination of Irish music and culture in the Southeast.

Evan Kinney was born into a musical family of high renown - his mother a singer and his father a fiddler/multi-instrumentalist in the old Georgia tradition. A favorite on the old time music circuit, he’s taken home more awards than you can shake a fiddle bow at! With guitar, banjo and fiddle in hand he’s proven his versatility by performing with quite an array of musicians of many stripes: The Gypsy Hicks, The Multi-cultural Marlay House Band and the Buddy O’Reilly band
to name just a few. As a talented vocalist and songwriter, his renditions of traditional American and Irish songs are both authentic and straight from the heart.
Jesse Edgerton is an award winning flat-foot dancer hailing originally from the mountains of North Carolina. In over a decade of performing and dancing socially, he has thrilled both audiences and musicians throughout the southeast with his percussive footwork. He has performed on stage with the Alison Brown Quartet and Joe Craven and participates annually in the Atlanta Celtic Christmas Concert. Jesse has led dance workshops throughout the Southeast. As a performer, he injects a sense of humor and whimsy into his dancing, deftly combining percussive dance traditions of southern Appalachia with music from around the world.
