Body Of Johns Creek Student Found In Roswell Pool, Teen Arrested

The body of a missing Johns Creek teen was found in an apartment pool in Roswell. Another teen was arrested for concealing the death.

ROSWELL, Ga. — The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the body of a 17-year-old female found in the pool of an apartment complex in Roswell as a missing teen from Johns Creek and another teen has been arrested for concealing her death.

The identification was confirmed as Mercedes Chico-Sims, 17, who Johns Creek Police were searching for earlier this week.

Elijah Foster, 18, of Roswell, has been arrested and charged with concealing the death of another in connection with this case. Foster was also charged with additional offenses unrelated to this investigation.

Shortly after 10 a.m. on May 29, Roswell Police officers responded to the Atlantic Newtown
Apartments, 9230 Nesbit Ferry Road, in response to the report of a deceased person. A maintenance worker located the victim lying near the complex pool and called 911, according to Lt. Noah Caplan of the Special Investigations Section of Roswell Police Department.

It was determined that the body was that of a female in her late teens to early 20s. Based on the manner in which the body was found, this was classified a suspicious death, Caplan said.

Shortly before this discovery, the Johns Creek Police Department initiated a missing person investigation. The missing person was reported to be a female in this age range. Johns Creek officers responded to the apartment complex to assist with the investigation.

Police began looking for Chico-Sims after her mother said she snuck out of the house but did not return, Johns Creek Lt. Todd Hood said.

An incident report from that night of Chico-Sims' friend asking her to meet up via Snapchat, but she never arrived.

This investigation is still ongoing. New developments will be reported as they occur.
