Falafel in Johns Creek?
The Middle East comes to Johns Creek. Want great Veggie sandwich and interesting appetizers' Shiraz Cafe offers it. Want Falafel, try someplace else.
Any New Yorker knows what a good Falafel tastes like. Here in Johns Creek over the weekend, my daughter and I decided to sample a new establishment, Shiraz Cafe. Wanting a really good Falafel and Middle Eastern cuisine, we gave it a shot. Located on McGinnis Ferry in the old PJ's coffee house spot (kinda wishing that was still there) next to Cinco's Mexican restaurant, Shiraz Cafe tries very hard to please.
The restaurant is eye pleasing with orange walls, low lights and great service. One of the owners is the former owner of Merlot. Charming man wanting very much to satisfy our wishes, he comes to our table to ask what veggies we'd like in the Veggie Pita. Shohreh, another owner, walks from table to table checking on the patrons.
In courtesy and service this restaurant is 100% top notch, unfortunatley, in Falafel, not so much. The Veggie pita sandwich was delicious, hot and loaded with fresh onions, zucchini and peppers. Excellent. We ordered an appetizer of Kashk Badjemjoon, served with warm fresh pita bread. This dish is made with fried eggplant, garlic and boiled yogurt. Fantastic ! The Falafel was dry and not very good at all. So "not eating that" again.

The outdoor seating is lovely, although the view is not exactly that of the spectacular Dead Sea or Gulf of Aqaba! All in all I think since Shiraz Cafe, which is only open for five weeks, may have a chance to improve. I would consider trying it again in a few months. Have a go and see what you think. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.
I love that Johns Creek has diversity and is trying hard to open new and different restaurants. For those of us always traveling to Decatur, Druid Hills, Midtown, etc. for more food options, its nice to know Johns Creek is branching out.
