Hairy Travels

Hair tips for summer travel.

I am an anxious traveler. There, I said it! One would assume I have a fear of flying. Oh no, not this girl. My biggest travel fear is looking like a hot mess in a cool city!

I won't lie, when it comes to packing, I'm a neurotic basket case. I have several lists, which I write and rewrite and then check and recheck. It is exhausting! I pay particular attention to my list of toiletries...specifically my hair products.

I have a ton of short, fine, frizz free wavy hair. Sounds easy right?! Nope! I have a system. A strictly regimented, neurosis driven system. I use a a curl shampoo and conditioner, two curl products, a leave in moisturizer AND a pomade. Seems excessive when it is all typed out! However, it is my own personal beauty cocktail and it works like a dream.

Here's some helpful tips to keep yourself sane when packing:

Ditch the hair dryer - Most hotels already have them available for you, no need to lug that giant thing!

Tools - Can't live without your flat iron? Must curl daily? Go mini! That's right, they make tiny irons. They save a ton of space and are stinkin' adorable!

Prioritize products – Pick your two most important styling products. If you are unsure of which ones to bring, ask your stylist.

Suds and duds – It's tempting to purchase the $1 tiny shampoos/conditioners at the drug store. Fight the urge! My favorite line, Kerastase recently released a travel size line of ALL the shampoos and conditioners along with a few styling products. For a few extra dollars I can have the healthy hair I am accustomed to at home. Check to see if your must-haves come in a daintier version.

Bring a hat - Let's face it, sometimes no matter how much work is put into our style things just don't go according to plan. Pack your most stylish hat and throw on some big shades. Instant glam!

As for me, I am off to Amsterdam for a week of hair classes and European exploration. With the help of these quick tips I was able to fight the tiny nagging voices in my head and get myself ready for many great hair days.

Veilig reizen en goed haar!

(That's “Safe travels and good hair” in dutch)
