The Arts are Alive & Well and Living in Johns Creek!

The arts are thriving in Johns Creek! Let's check it out together, let's see what's happening and then talk about it, OK?

Wow, what a week we've had here in Johns Creek! Everywhere you turned, there was another way to experience a top notch, world class artistic performance of one sort or another. Now that's rather amazing considering Johns Creek is barely 5 years old, ya think? But actually, many of these groups have been around a lot longer than even the idea of a city forming, some beyond 10 or more years. That's really exciting news for me, afterall, I'm the Executive Director of the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra, but I'm also the head of a steering committee which operates the Arts Alliance at Johns Creek.  And like a proud mama, I saw several of "my" babies getting plenty of media exposure since last weekend.

So in the span of 7 days we had the North Atlanta Dance Theatre perform a beautiful ballet, Carmen. We had Autrey Mill Nature Preserve & Heritage Center collaborated with Performing Arts North (aka The Shakespeare Studio) perform Alice in Wonderland. BTW, did you read the excellent article in this past Sunday's AJC? Front page of the Living Section, there it was! All about Performing Arts North and the Dancing Goat Theater. Front page!!! Then there was Art in Bloom presented over 4 days by the Johns Creek Arts Center which highlighted flowers and art. Even featured a gala on Friday night at that cool new gallery/events space (thank you Penn Hodge!) with guest speaker Coach Vince Dooley talking about.....wait for it................flowers!! Yup, his love of gardening and flowers! And of course there was the Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra's Season Finale "Shall We Dance?" held on Saturday night. That was a blast! A delightful musical look at music through the ages, complete with ballroom dancers. Fantastic!

So, were you there? Did I meet you? Can you tell me about your experiences at any of these events?  I'm so thrilled, I can't even begin to explain it! But, trust me I'm going to try each week right here in this blog. So stay with me and let's examine the arts from all different angles, ok? For me there is nothing better nor more rewarding than an amazing performance of some sort, whether I'm performing myself or sitting as a delighful patron. Heck, even great dining is art, or the way the sky looks sometimes, or maybe how the light hits your backyard. So think about it and we'll chat again.
