Tiara Tuesday

The Wessex Aquamarine Tiara

This Tuesday's tiara comes to us from Her Royal Highness Sophie, Countess of Wessex, the wife of His Royal Highness, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex.  She debuted this Aquamarine Tiara during the Coronation festivities of Prince Albert II of Monaco, in 2005. Before 2005 Sophie only had only been seen in one tiara, her wedding tiara (Wessex wedding tiara), so the debut of her new one was quite exciting.  There was one brief appearance of Sophie in a tiara of unknown origin at Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark’s wedding to Mary Donaldson, but it hasn’t been seen since.

The most amazing thing about this beautiful aquamarine and diamond tiara is that it can be converted to be worn as a necklace.  Aside from that, there are few notable known facts about this tiara.  There has been speculation that Prince Edward designed it himself, and also that it comes from pieces already within the Royal Family. Unfortunately, no information has been forthcoming.  Happy Tiara Tuesday!
