Brad Raffensperger To Run For State House Seat

The Johns Creek City Council member will seek the seat vacated by Lynne Riley, who will serve as the Department of Revenue commissioner.

Another Johns Creek City Council member has tossed his hat into the ring to run for the State House District 50 seat.

Post 2 member Brad Raffensperger said on Monday he will run for the seat, which has been vacated due to the resignation of Lynne Riley. Riley on Friday was tapped by Gov. Nathan Deal to serve as the Department of Revenue commissioner.

Raffensperger’s announcement means the race will have at least two candidates vying to become the next legislator to represent Johns Creek in the Georgia General Assembly. Fellow Johns Creek City Council member Kelly Stewart said on Saturday she will resign her post at the local level to run for the seat.

Raffensperger said he will resign his seat after Gov. Nathan Deal sets the date for the special election.

“The key difference in this campaign is that there is only one candidate who has never voted for a tax increase and never will,” Raffensperger said. “As our next representative I will never vote for a tax increase. Never.”

Raffensperger said last week’s midterm elections proved ”conservatives and homeowners are fed up with candidates who pledge to vote against taxes, but then break that promise.”

“We deserve a reliable conservative who will not raise taxes,” he added. “And that’s my record.”

Raffensperger has served on Johns Creek City Council for three years. He is a current board member of the Ed Isakson/ Alpharetta Family YMCA. He is also a member North Point Community Church where he mentored 25 middle school students.
