Centennial Educator Named Georgia History Teacher Of The Year

Chad Hoge has been honored as the 2016 Georgia History Teacher of the Year by The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History.

From the Centennial High School PTSA: Centennial High School is proud to share that teacher Chad Hoge was recently honored at the Fulton County Board work session for his achievements in teaching, including being named 2016 Georgia History Teacher of the Year by The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History; leading his students to another award-winning year in Model UN competition; and demonstrating creativity and imagination in the classroom in his AP History classes, skills he shares in state-wide teacher training.

State History Teachers of the Year receive a prize package including a certificate of recognition, a $1,000 award, a collection of classroom resources to be presented in their name to the school library, and an invitation to participate in a Gilder Lehrman Teacher Seminar. Each winner’s school will become a Gilder Lehrman Affiliate School. Winners are honored in a ceremony in their state.

The Fulton County Board also invited five members of the Centennial Model UN team to be recognized based on their achievements at the prestigious Vanderbilt University Model UN conference in late fall 2016. The Centennial High School Model UN team is a leader in the nation and the only school in Georgia named in the top 150 Model UN programs. The participating students were: Outstanding Delegate, Rogan Foulis; Verbal Commendation, Conner Evan; and Honorable Mentions, Riley Busbee, Grace Truax, and Alexandra Chapman.

“It is very gratifying to see Chad Hoge recognized for his passion and commitment to educating tomorrow’s leaders,” said Principal Kibbey Crumbley. “We are very fortunate to have Chad at our school and in our district. The students love him and it is clear from their accomplishments that they are also benefiting from his tutelage!”
