City Council Races Head Towards Runoff

Incumbent Johns Creek City Councilman Steve Broadbent defeated challenger Thomas Radford for the Post 6 seat.

Three races to fill seats on the Johns Creek City Council will advance to a runoff scheduled next month.

As of 10:55 p.m. preliminary results show neither candidate in those races has received enough votes to avoid the Dec. 1 runoff.

In the general election to fill the Post 2 seat, Jay Lin currently leads the pack with 43.66 percent, or 1,897 votes. He’s followed by Chris Coughlin at 28.17 percent, or 1,224 votes and Todd Burkhalter at 27.59 percent, or 1,199 votes.

For the special election to fill the Post 2 seat (for an unexpired term through December 2015), Burkhalter received 36 percent, or 1,451 votes. The preliminary totals for the remaining candidates are: Chris Coughlin at 34.16 percent, or 1,377 votes; Patty Hansen at 18.01 percent, or 726 votes; and Arun Misra at 10.72 percent, or 432 votes.

In the special election for the vacant Post 5 seat, which is also for an unexpired term that will end December 2017, Stephanie Endres leads the race with 49.08 percent, or 1,979 votes. The numbers for her fellow candidates are: Nazeera Dawood at 39.11 percent, or 1,577 votes; and Carlos Carbonell at 11.21 percent, or 452 votes.

For the Post 6 seat, incumbent Steve Broadbent cruised to victory with 59.82 percent, or 2,448 votes to challenger Thomas Radford’s 39.54 percent, or 1,618 votes.

Incumbent Post 4 City Councilman Bob Gray faced no opposition in the Nov. 3 municipal election.

The Post 2 seat became vacant when former Council member Brad Raffensperger resigned to run for the State House District 50 seat. The Post 5 seat, formerly held by City Council Kelly Stewart, also became vacant for the same reason.
