The dinner is being held at Café 101, an authentic Chinese cuisine restaurant, located at 11950 Jones Bridge Road #112 in Johns Creek.

Johns Creek has the largest Asian-American and Pacific Islander population of any city in Georgia. AAPIs make up 23.4% or 17,925 of the total population in Johns Creek, according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau statistics.

The two largest Asian ethnic groups in Johns Creek are Indian and Korean.

Advancing Justice-Atlanta approximates that about 15 percent of all voting age persons in that city are also AAPI. However, currently only 12 percent of all active voters in Johns Creek are AAPI.

“AAPI voters have the power to influence the elections. Our goal is to encourage AAPIs not only to vote but to consider running,” said Helen Ho, Executive Director of Advancing Justice-Atlanta. Currently, there are no AAPI elected officials in Johns Creek.

The event is part of Advancing Justice’s ongoing community dinner with city officials series to educate residents on the importance of municipal elections, provide networking opportunities to meet and speak directly with local officials, and also learn about running for office.

Current Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker, Councilman Steve Broadbent, Councilman Leonard Zaprowski, Councilwoman Cori Daveport, City Manager Warren Hutmacher, State Senator John Albers and more are expected to attend.

Those interested in running for Johns Creek City Council have Between Monday, Aug. 31 and Wednesday, Sept. 2 to qualify as a candidate.

The dinner event is free but seating is limited and RSVP is required. Media interested in attending must RSVP with Raymond Partolan at rpartolan@advancingjustice-atlanta.org or 404-585-8446.
