Rogers Bridge Restoration: County Approves Agreement For Project
The cities of Johns Creek and Duluth, along with Fulton and Gwinnett counties, will collaborate in funding the project.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- Progress continues to be made in a bid to restore Rogers Bridge over the Chattahoochee River.
The Fulton County Commission at its May 4 meeting approved an agreement that would allow the development of a pedestrian bridge that would connect parks in the cities of Johns Creek and Duluth.
“I am pleased at this first step in a collaborative project that will both enhance recreational opportunities and create backup water supply systems for Fulton residents,” said Fulton County Commission Vice Chairman Liz Hausmann, who represents Johns Creek.

The intergovernmental agreement will allow for the rehabilitation of the bridge over existing water pipes, which will be incorporated in the bridge construction.
Fulton and Gwinnett counties, along with Duluth and Johns Creek, will collaborate in funding the project. The agreement will also accommodate water system connectivity, allowing Fulton County to receive emergency backup water supply from Gwinnett County.

The project would connect Johns Creek's Rogers Bridge Trail to Rogers Bridge Park in Duluth. A 2006 bridge condition study conducted by Duluth was updated in October 2014 to determine what was needed for the existing bridge to be renovated to be used as a bicycle and pedestrian bridge.
The bridge was constructed in the 1900's and is closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Johns Creek's Rogers Bridge Trail runs along existing Rogers Bridge Road right of way, which runs down to the Chattahoochee River on the west side of the river.
This trail is adjacent to farmland and single family homes. The Rogers Bridge trail currently connects to a trail along the east side of Bell Road, and is in the city's trail plan to connect to the Shakerag Elementary School and Shakerag Park along Rogers Bridge Circle.
