“I’m excited about the future and this opportunity to serve the people of Fulton County,” Cowart said. ”As your sheriff, I will streamline red tape and cut costs. I intend to always be looking for ways to improve our department for our constituents, our customers, and our employees. Bottom line, that’s the difference between me and others who served before me.”
The Feb. 4 event featured Kris “Tanto” Paronto, one of the heroes featured in the Michael Bay movie “13 Hours” as the keynote speaker.
University of Georgia senior and Sandy Springs resident Hannah Weiss attended the event with her mother and grandmother.
”The Ben Cowart for Fulton County Sheriff campaign kickoff was a truly incredible event,” Weiss said. “ It was an absolute honor to support Ben Cowart and to have the opportunity to meet and hear from Kris “Tanto” Paronto, a true American hero. My mother, grandmother, and I all attended the campaign kickoff event, and all three generations could not be more excited to support Mr. Cowart in his journey to become Fulton County’s next Sheriff.”
A graduate of Dunwoody High School, Cowart has owned and operated several successful businesses during the past few decades.
He’s also served as a reserve deputy and reserve officer for several law enforcement offices, including the Fulton and Gwinnett County sheriff’s departments and the Lawrenceville and Norcross police departments.
Cowart graduated from the Georgia Public Safety Training Center’s Basic Mandate Law Enforcement program in 1994 and later suffered a spinal injury while working for the Fulton sheriff’s office.
In 2001, he founded Military Vehicle Specialties, LLC, which buys, refurbishes and sells used military trucks and equipment. The company in 2006 donated a M114 armored personnel carrier to the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department to aid the agency during SWAT situations.
Cowart is also president of DDCB, Inc., a family-owned real estate company, founder of Cowart Development Corporation and president of Cowart & Cowart Builders LLC.
Along with his service as a reserve deputy and reserve officer, he also was a member of the Rotary Club of Peachtree Corners from 1993 to 2003, including serving three years as club secretary.
