CYT Atlanta Holds Auditions For 'Junie B. Jones, The Musical'

Auditions will be held on Aug.18-19, and are open to youth between 8 and 18 years old who are registered for a CYT Atlanta fall class.

From CYT: North Fulton’s Christian Youth Theater (CYT) of Atlanta is making preparations for its fall production of Junie B. Jones, The Musical. Auditions will be held on August 18-19 and are open for all 8-18 year olds who are registered for a CYT Atlanta fall class. The production will feature two lead casts.

“The original production of Junie B. Jones features adults playing kids, similar to 'You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown'”, said CYT Artistic Director Anna Kilbride. “Since our program features a wide range of ages (ages 8-18), the artistic team has decided to double cast using an older group of students to represent Mr. Scary's first grade class in one cast and younger students representing the class in the other cast. All students will participate in the full school scenes of both casts.” Added CYT Atlanta Executive Director Connie Matthews, “As with our spring production of School of Rock, we will have an older and younger lead cast. Both shows work beautifully for this and it will give students more opportunities for the coveted roles and both ages will be able to do an incredible job.”

Created by Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich, Junie B. Jones, The Musical, brings to life the beloved character from Barbara Park’s best-selling book series.

It’s Junie’s first day of first grade and things are about to change fast: new friends, a new teacher named Mr. Scary, a new “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal,” and a high likelihood that Junie might need glasses. Weaving together comical incidents and first grade antics from four Junie B. Jones books, The Musical tells an endearing and hilarious story that will be fun for the whole family. “The music is fun and upbeat and the storyline is familiar to many families. We hope to draw students to the show who love the characters and want to see them come to life from the page to the stage,” said Matthews.Junie B. Jones has been a hit production for youth theaters nationwide, and CYT Atlanta is excited to present one of the first full productions of this Broadway show to the Johns Creek, Roswell, and Alpharetta communities.

An affiliate of the largest youth theater network in the country, Christian Youth Theater Atlanta was founded in 2003 and offers after school theater classes along with professionally directed theatrical productions for the community.

Each year, hundreds of students in the North Metro Atlanta suburbs experience character- grounded, arts education through weekly workshops, online courses, and summer camps. These same students have the opportunity to participate in professionally directed and produced musicals. Drawing from North Fulton, Forsyth, and Gwinnett counties, CYT benefits from the combined talents of students who are both new to theater and also well-seasoned, with many school and community shows on their resumes. Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church in Johns Creek will again provide a state of the art theater for this fall production of Junie B. Jones, The Musical. The show will run from October 26-29.
