Fire Marshal Completes Executive Officer Program

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- Johns Creek Fire Marshal Chad McGiboney has completed the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program. 

McGiboney is the only member of the Johns Creek Fire Department who has earned the executive fire officer designation, the city said on Wednesday. 

The four-year program, operated out of the National Fire Academy in Maryland, brings chief fire officials from all over the world together to enhance professional development and key leadership roles through a series of four graduate and upper-division baccalaureate equivalent courses. 

At the completion of each course, an Applied Research Project is conducted based on that specific topic and its relationship to the organization.

Applicants must meet specific academic and service requirements in order to be selected for the nationally recognized program, which includes courses on executive development, executive analysis of community risk reduction, executive analysis of fire service operations in emergency management and executive leadership.

“The program provided great exposure to a variety of chief officers, learning about what challenges they’ve experienced and how they’ve overcome them,” said McGiboney. “I can now apply those learning experiences here in Johns Creek and help to make this community even safer.”

McGiboney’s career in fire service began in Fulton County in 1996. He then helped start the city of Milton’s fire department and was hired as Johns Creek’s fire marshal in June 2008.

“Throughout the last four years I’ve been in the program, I’ve had great support from Chief Jeff Hogan, the city and my family,” McGiboney added. “I’m looking forward to applying the knowledge that I gained through the program in the Johns Creek community.”
