Foundation Gives Gift of Technology to Medlock Bridge Elementary

Medlock Bridge Elementary Foundation donates netbooks, interactive boards to school.

The Medlock Bridge Elementary Foundation has donated 15 netbooks to Medlock Bridge Elementary School. Additionally, it donated seven Mimio interactive boards to complete a three-year project that has outfitted every classroom in the school with cutting edge teaching technology.

To make these purchases possible, the foundation successfully raised more than $17,000 through a large sponsorship drive and fall fundraising season. This included a silent auction and a holiday bazaar as well as direct donations from corporate sponsors and parents.

The netbooks will be housed in the school’s award-winning media center. Medlock Bridge Elementary School Media Specialist Leigh Martin said, “We are so excited to have the new netbooks in the library. Students will use them every day to build information literacy skills and become technology savvy, 21st century learners.”

The Medlock Bridge Elementary Foundation was created in 2007, in response to continuing funding cuts from the state and county level, to continue to make capital improvements for the school. Since 2007, the foundation has raised some $200,000.

“The foundation's success rests solely on the shoulders of the volunteers who give so generously of their time, and to area businesses who never cease to amaze me with their support of our school,” said Lisa Beckett, the foundation's president.
