Free Document Shredding Returns to Johns Creek

The city's event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20 at Panera Bread on Medlock Bridge Road.

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- If you've missed previous chances to get rid of some of those papers lying around the house, the city of Johns Creek will come to your rescue.

Keep Johns Creek Beautiful and Panera Bread will partner with the city to offer a free document shredding on Saturday, Aug 20.

The event, which will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the restaurant's location at 11715 Medlock Bridge Road, will also include an opportunity to recycle cooking fats, oils and grease, fluorescent bulbs and gently-used clothes and shoes.

  • Please note this event does NOT include electronic recycling.

Properly disposing of fats, oils and grease prevent the clogging of pipes, which can cause sewage to back up in streets and homes.

Fluorescent tubes and curly compact fluorescent bulbs contain mercury, which lingers in the environment for years.

Keep Johns Creek Beautiful has special equipment that destroys the lights and stores the material and gases for recovery later by a certified fluorescent-light recycling firm.

Documents at the event will be shred on-site, and all of the paper will be recycled. This event is free for residents of the city of Johns Creek; however, for non-residents, there is a fee of up to $5 to recycle fluorescent bulbs.
