Fulton County Needs Input On Design For New Schools

Community meetings are scheduled to held later this month in Sandy Springs, Roswell, Milton and Johns Creek.

That’s the motto of a special committee charged with reviewing the standards used to design new schools and renovate older ones.

Known commonly in the industry as “ed specs,” educational specifications are the building design characteristics that support educational programs and provide equitable facilities standards for school construction.

Over the past several months, staff members with the Fulton County School System have been engaging targeted groups to share information about the process and collect feedback that will be used in developing a 2017-2022 capital plan.

In mid-September, several community meetings located throughout the county have been set to gather further input.

  • Monday, Sept. 14, 6:45 p.m. – Sandtown Middle School, 5400 Campbellton Road SW, Atlanta,
  • Monday, Sept. 14, 7 p.m. – Milton High School, 13025 Birmingham Highway, Milton
  • Tuesday, Sept. 15, 7 p.m. – Chattahoochee High School, 5230 Taylor Road
  • Tuesday, Sept. 15, 6:30 p.m. – Paul D. West Middle School, 2376 Headland Drive, East Point
  • Wednesday, Sept. 16, 7 p.m. – Roswell High School, 11595 King Road, Roswell
  • Wednesday, Sept. 16, 6:30 p.m. – Dunwoody Springs Elementary School, 8100 Roberts Drive, Sandy Springs

Design consultants from DeJong-Richter, a nationally recognized educational facility planning firm, will lead a discussion about how school buildings can support a personalized learning environment for the 21st Century.

Parents, teachers, students, business owners and community members are encouraged to participate.
