FULTON COUNTY, GA — The first bell on the 2019-20 school year is about to ring and that means parents need to get their calendars in order. The first day of school for Fulton County Schools is Monday, Aug. 12 — and whether you and the kids are looking forward to the new school year or are dreading the end of summer, you'll want to mark the date on your calendar ASAP.

To help out, we've compiled a listing of important dates in the coming year. The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, teacher workdays and federal holidays.

  • Teacher pre-planning: Aug. 6-9
  • First day of school: Aug. 12
  • Labor Day: Sept. 2
  • Teacher work day: Oct. 11
  • Columbus Day: Oct. 14
  • Professional development day: Nov. 5
  • Thanksgiving break: Nov. 25-29
  • Last day of first semester: Dec. 20
  • Winter break: Dec. 23- Jan. 3
  • Teacher workday: Jan. 3
  • First day of second semester: Jan. 6
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday: Jan. 20
  • Presidents' Day (Inclement Weather Day): Feb. 17
  • Teacher Workday (Inclement Weather Day): March 13
  • Spring break: April 6-10
  • Last day of school: May 22
  • Memorial Day: May 25
  • Teacher post-planning: May 26-27
