At the fair, district leaders hope to recruit many of the 700 new teachers that are needed for the 2016-2017 school year.
Although teacher recruitment is a yearlong activity where district leaders frequently visit colleges and universities, the career fair is hosted exclusively by Fulton County Schools and features information sessions and interview opportunities with school leaders.

Two weeks ago, a smaller career fair was sponsored to target vacancies in the school system’s Achievement Zone, a cluster of 10 schools that makes up the Banneker High School attendance boundary and its feeder schools in the southern part of the county.
While all teaching areas are being recruited, special education, foreign language, elementary education, math, science and ESOL are the most highly sought subjects. Those who teach special education, an area in the highest demand both locally and nationally, are scheduled to receive an additional $3,000 supplement to their teaching salary. To date, early contracts with the $3,000 supplement have been offered to 40 special education teachers.
On average, Fulton County Schools receives about 8,000 applications each year. While the quantity is obvious, a comprehensive selection process is important to identify quality applicants, so the district’s Talent Department partnered with The New Teacher Project to develop a new Teacher Selection Model to measure potential teacher effectiveness.
The new selection process, which launched two years ago, puts Fulton applicants through a more in-depth pre-screening before they land in the pool of candidates for principals’ consideration, which is different from most school systems. This nets the district higher quality, higher performing teacher candidates.
The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with check-in beginning at 8 a.m. Candidates are encouraged to preregister online, but walk-ins are accepted, and all should bring 20-25 copies of their resume, reference list and a copy of their teaching certificate.
Some interviews will be conducted on the spot for 2016-2017 vacancies so candidates should come prepared and dressed for success.
