Fulton’s 2019 Advanced Placement Results Show Increased Scores
Fulton County Schools' scores of three or higher increased from 70.3 percent in 2018 to 71.4 percent in 2019.
FULTON COUNTY, GA — The College Board recently released the results of the 2019 Advanced Placement (AP) exams, and Fulton County Schools’ scores of three or higher increased from 70.3 percent in 2018 to 71.4 percent in 2019, a 1.1 percent increase. Two high schools, Chattahoochee and Northview, had more than 90 percent of their AP exams result in a score of 3, 4, or 5.
The number of exams in Fulton County Schools decreased this year from 20,150 to 19,153. In 2019, approximately 10,000 FCS students took 19,153 exams. From 2015 through 2019, the number of AP exams administered in Fulton County increased by 4 percent while the number of exams passed with a 3, 4, or 5 increased by over 10 percent.
“I’m pleased to see so many students challenge themselves with Advanced Placement’s college-level rigor,” said Superintendent Mike Looney. “These curriculum opportunities help prepare our college-bound students for more academic success.”

The College Board administers AP exams each spring, with scores ranging from one to five. Participation in Advanced Placement classes may provide students with an opportunity to earn college credit and skip introductory college courses. Although policies vary by institution, credit is generally awarded for Advanced Placement exam scores of 3 or higher. Participation in Advanced Placement courses and exam scores may also be a consideration in college entrance.
