Fulton Schools Celebrate Georgia Pre-K Week

The week is a chance for elementary schools with pre-kindergarten programs to showcase their work by inviting special guests into classrooms

JOHNS CREEK, GA -- Georgia Pre-K Week 2016 will be celebrated Oct. 3-7 in the Fulton County School System and across Georgia.

For the past six years, this week-long observance has brought people together to celebrate Georgia’s Pre-K Program and the importance of quality early learning in the lives of the state’s youngest learners.

The goal of the Fulton County Schools pre-kindergarten program is to provide young children with appropriate preschool experiences.

The curriculum emphasizes growth in language and literacy, mathematical thinking, scientific thinking, social studies, personal and social development, physical development and health, and the arts. All are learning experiences young children need to be ready for kindergarten.

Pre-K Week is a chance for Fulton County elementary schools with pre-kindergarten programs to showcase their work by inviting special guests into classrooms. Eleven schools have state legislators or local elected officials confirmed as class visitors during Georgia Pre-K Week:

  • Hamilton Holmes Elementary: Rep. Keisha Waites, Oct. 3, 9 a.m. - 10 a.m.
  • Conley Hills Elementary: Rep. Keisha Waites, Oct. 3, 11 a.m. - noon
  • Lake Forest Elementary: Rep. Deborah Silcox, Oct. 3, 9 a.m. - 10 a.m.
  • College Park Elementary: Sen. Nan Orrock, Oct. 4, 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.
  • Palmetto Elementary: Sen. Donzella James, Oct. 4, 9 a.m. - 10 a.m.
  • Roswell North Elementary: Sen. John Albers, Oct. 4, 9 a.m. - 10 a.m.
  • Heritage Elementary: Rep. Deborah Bazemore, Oct. 4, 9 a.m. - 10 a.m.

  • S.L. Lewis Elementary: Rep. Virgil Fludd, Oct. 5, 9 a.m. - 10 a.m.
  • State Bridge Crossing: Johns Creek Mayor Pro Tem Steve Broadbent, Oct. 5, 8:30 a.m. – 9:30 a.m.

In Fulton County, approximately 1,700 four-year-old students and special needs three-year-old preschoolers, attend pre-kindergarten programs in 81 classrooms among 45 elementary schools.

Funding for pre-k programs is funded through grants from Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning.
