Fulton Schools See Drop in CCRPI Score

The Georgia Department of Education on Tuesday released results of the third year of its College and Career Ready Performance Index, and the overall score of the Fulton County School System took a slight tumble.

The CCRPI is Georgia’s statewide accountability system, which replaces the No Child Left Behind Adequate Yearly Progress measurement, after the U.S. Department of Education granted the state’s waiver from NCLB in 2012.

It measures schools and school districts on a 100-point scale, helping parents and the public to better understand how schools are performing in a more comprehensive manner than the pass/fail system previously in place under AYP.

A school and district’s overall score is made up of three major areas: Achievement (60 points possible), Progress (25 points possible) and Achievement Gap (15 points possible).

Overall, the system’s score dropped from 77.5 in 2013 to 73.2 in 2014.

Broken down:

• Elementary schools: 78.4 (2013) to 74.1 (2014)
• Middle schools: 75.2 (2013) to 72.7 (2014)
• High schools: 77.8 (2013) to 72.2 (2014)

The school system notes that while its overall CCRPI score went down from last year, Achievement points are up across the system:

• Elementary schools: +0.2
• Middle schools: +0.2
• High schools: +0.1

The CCRPI scores are just one accountability measure Fulton County Schools uses. Under the district’s comprehensive Strategic Plan 2017, progress is measured on three specific goals:

• 90 percent of Fulton students will graduate on time;
• 85 percent of Fulton’s seniors will be eligible for admission to a University System of Georgia college or university​; and
• 100 percent of Fulton’s graduates will be work-ready certified​.

Although the target for hitting these goals isn’t until 2017, Fulton County Schools has already seen significant gains in these areas. Indicators of success include:

• The Fulton 2014 graduation rate is 78.7 percent, a 3.2 percent increase over the 2013 rate of 75.5 percent, which outpaces all other large school districts as well as the state’s increase of 0.7 percent.
• More than 80 percent of Fulton’s class of 2014 took the SAT with results showing that the Fulton County School System has more schools with high SAT performance than any other district in Georgia and is ranked third in overall SAT score. Fulton has the state’s second highest math score and is tied for first for the writing section.
