GDOT Imposes Lane Closures, Traffic Shifts on Old Alabama Road
The closures and shifts are required for the first stage of widening Old Alabama Road to four lanes from Buice Road to Medlock Bridge Road.

Motorists around Johns Creek may have noticed some considerable delays along Old Alabama Road over the weekend.

That’s because contractors with the Georgia Department of Transportation set up lane closures and traffic shifts on the road from Buice Road to S.R. 141/ Medlock Bridge Road, which are needed for the first stage of widening Old Alabama Road between both Buice and Medlock Bridge roads.
Lane closures and traffic shifts are as follows:

- Westbound traffic on Old Alabama Road will shift from S.R. 141/Medlock Bridge Road to Buice Road;
- One eastbound lane will close on Old Alabama Road from Buice Road to S.R. 141/Medlock Bridge Road;
- One left-turn lane from Old Alabama Road onto S.R. 141/ Medlock Bridge Road will close;
- The right-turn lane from Old Alabama Road to Buice Road will close; and
- Motorists can use the right-turn lane from Old Alabama Road to S.R. 141/ Medlock Bridge Road to make a right or left turn.
Message boards will be placed on S.R. 141/ Medlock Bridge Road, Old Alabama Road and Buice Road to help motorist better navigate the traffic shift and lane closures.
The lane closures and traffic shift will result in delays, and motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving in the area.
To avoid the headache, the city of Johns Creek is encouraging motorists to use utilize two options as alternate routes: Jones Bridge Road to State Bridge Road or Nesbit Ferry Road to Holcomb Bridge Road.
Johns Creek Public Works Department has also adjusting the timing of the traffic signal on Old Alabama Road at Medlock Bridge Road to “add more time to help keep traffic moving.”
The agency ”will continue to work with GDOT on other possible solutions to help alleviate congestion while this project is ongoing,” the city added.
The construction project will also add a left-turn lane on S.R. 141/Medlock Bridge Road to Old Alabama Road, raised medians and sidewalks. The project costs $3.9 million and is expected to be complete by the end of 2016.
