Girl Scouts Build Little Free Library For Homeless Residents

The Little Free Library will be used by clients of HomeStretch, a Roswell-based group that helps homeless residents get back on their feet.

JOHNS CREEK, GA — Members of Johns Creek-based Girl Scout Troop 13463 recently achieved the Bronze Award after completing a community service project in Roswell.

Members of the troop constructed a Little Free Library post for clients of HomeStretch, a nonprofit organization that helps homeless residents find permanent housing.

All members of the troop took part in our project, as each girl took turns drilling, sawing, painting and nailing together the little free library.

There were four holes dug to hold the library's legs, which were supported with concrete and dirt. Books collected through community drives were added to the library for HomeStretch clients.

Every month members from the troop will take turns to replace old books for new ones for the HomeStretch residents. The Girl Scout troop worked closely with Natalie Henderson, HomeStretch volunteer coordinator who explained how the organization serves the community.

According to its website, HomStretch helps homeless working families "towards increased self-reliance and stability" by providing supportive housing and programs until they are able to obtain permanent housing.
