In 2013, the parade was the largest yet with 99 units, including marching bands, entertaining walkers, horse riders, plus floats built by civic groups, scouts, businesses, and homeowners associations.
Competition will be spirited. Last year, the Medlock Bridge Homeowners Association float won first place for the Best Subdivision category - for the fourth year in a row.
Autrey Mill Heritage Center and Nature Preserve’s float took Best Business/Civic honors. The Best School/Scout float was by the Findley Oaks 2nd Grade Brownies.
Past parades have included the World Financial Group’s NASCAR racecar, the Oscar-Mayer Wienermobile, the Marine Corps Color Guard, the Feed and Seed Marching Abominables, the Wells Fargo stagecoach, Medieval Times, and the Patriot Brass Band.
Last year, the Founders Day Parade was named an official Shriners Parade, resulting in about 50 Shriner units.
When you do your planning, remember that there’s only one Santa, and he rides in a firetruck at the end.
