Hillside's All Pro Dads Give to Blessings in a Backpack

Johns Creek and Roswell dads with their Hillside kids provided 50 Blessings in a Backpack at their All Pro Dads gathering this month.

Roswell, Ga. (February 21, 2016) — This month’s All Pro Dads program at Hillside Elementary had even more meaning that usual. Over the course of the first 4 meetings of the school year, Hillside students have donated their “pocket change” and raised just over $160.

In February, that pocket change turned into an inspiring charitable gift. All Pro Dads is a national program on a mission to help men love and lead their family. Hillside’s group meets on the first Friday of each school year month. Dads and their student children enjoy breakfast and discuss meaningful topics such as leadership, courage, and appreciation.

Children are encouraged to speak in front of the group, and tell dad what he does to make them proud! Hillside is proud of these children and their dads, because this month they turned their pocket change into 50 Blessings in a Backpack. With their generosity and donations provided by the Haynes and Holcomb Bridge Middle Schools Beta Clubs, they provided 50 families with a backpack full of necessities. Blessings in a Backpack has reached over 83,000 students in 900 schools across the country.

Co-Chair Derrick Warren, dad to a 5th grader and kindergartener, says the event was so much more than anticipated.

“At the beginning of the year, we knew we wanted to have the kids touch a local charity, but we hadn’t picked one. As a Title I school, Blessings in a Backpack was a natural choice, and the children could really feel their giving.”
