Hooch Educator Named Economics Teacher Of The Year

Tim Reeder was recognized earlier this year by the Georgia Council on Economic Education.

JOHNS CREEK, GA — Chattahoochee High School teacher Tim Reeder has been named the state's Economics Teacher of the Year, the Fulton County School System said.

Reeder was recognized with the honor earlier this year by the Georgia Council on Economic Education. Reeder, an AP economics educator, is the chair of the Social Studies Department at Chattahoochee.

He teaches Advanced Placement Micro/Macroeconomics while also coaching track & field and cross-country teams. Reeder is also the school system's pioneer of the new AP Capstone program, which is comprised of AP Seminar and AP Research classes.

When choosing Teacher of the Year, GCEE looks for an economics teacher with knowledge, ability, willingness, enthusiasm, and creativity.

"I enjoy that Economics is a social science that studies human behavior, but does so in a more scientific, mathematical way," Reeder said. "The subject bridges Humanities and STEM and also relates to many current events and has clear, real world implications."

Reeder, a graduate of Chattahoochee High School, has led his students to victory at the State Economics Bowl four times. He was also recently informed by the Advanced Placement College Board that of the 150,000 students who took the AP Macroeconomics exam, 60 worldwide made perfect scores. Three of those 60 test takers were his own students, Fulton County Schools said.
